The Apple logo and social influence

I switched to a Macbook about a year ago. I still get it out of my bag and put it on my lap the wrong way round to open it.

It was only after reading this that I realised why I keep getting it wrong and why it makes sense for the logo to be that way up.

As the article points out it is a conflict between the needs of the user (so I don’t keep getting my laptop the wrong way up) and the needs of Apple to enables its users to promote its brand.

Given how much Apple is reliant on social influence and word of mouth recommendation to build its brand I can see why they made the choice they did.
