Prior to joining Sandtable, Catherine completed her MSc in Data Science at King’s College London. At King’s Catherine conducted research with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience into the psychological and mental impact of urbanization on adolescent development. Catherine’s love for data began while working with a neurotechnology startup in Washington DC and later an environmental advocacy nonprofit in Austin, Texas.
Since joining Sandtable in December 2017 Catherine has applied NLP techniques to news and social media data to simulate the spread of media in ABMs. She has used machine learning methods to identify automation in social media (‘bots’) with the goal of understanding their effects on public opinion. She enjoys exploring and exploiting new methodologies in the constantly evolving fields of data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
While living in Austin Catherine lived on an urban farm where she grew heirloom tomatoes, rode horses and most importantly raised a family of goats. She is fascinated by animal behavior and plans to build the first ABM on the social hierarchy of goat herds.
