Before coming to Sandtable, James was an astronomer, studying the link between galaxies and supermassive black holes. He spent four years in Australia working on a large-scale galaxy survey, working on everything from operating the telescope to software development and data analysis. During this time he built up a lot of the data science skills that he now uses at Sandtable.
Since joining Sandtable James has been involved in many different projects, including a model of the UK shopping market. As well as developing the model itself he has built visualisation tools to better understand the internal workings of the model.
James can often be found out hiking or visiting nature reserves. He is also interested in music, cooking and typography.
